Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180108-8D773-2147393891. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore Kenmore model no. 790.80323310. Incident: We were using our Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Oven to bake and cook food on burners when flames lept from the back of the unit. There was a puff of black and acrid smoke that smelled like an electrical fire. The flames went out quickly but the smell lingered and the electrical oven was off and the display showed nonsense. We had a tile backsplash and clean cooking area, so nothing ignited, but it could have spread quickly if the residual grease in the range hood would have caught fire. We were left with singed eyebrows and choking on the bitter fumes.
