Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180108-C1D8D-2147393893. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Insignia NS-P10A8100 (Insignia 10.1" FLEX Tablet for [REDACTED]). Incident: My grandson was charging his new 10.1" FLEX tablet for [REDACTED] (Insignia) with the cord included with the tablet. When he went to unplug it it was very hot and smoking. He screamed, "something is on fire". I ran to him, smelled the pungent smell of burning plastic, and quickly unplugged the charger cord from the wall. Once it cooled enough to touch, we could see that the plug into the computer was melted and its shape was distorted. On the tablet itself, where it plugged in, the plastic was also melted. We later attempted to charge the tablet with another plug, but it no longer will charge. We even re-tried the melted charger, but it would not charge the tablet. My grandson was terrified by this incident (he is 6) and is devastated by the loss of his best Christmas gift. I have contacted the company, www.insigniaproducts.com and am waiting for the receipt from his aunt in order to replace the tablet. However, I believe this is serious enough to report to you in order to prevent potential fires, burns and even deaths.
