Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180111-7C78E-1725684. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore 790.46782901 (electric range). Incident: The submitter was using the oven to make bacon and had set it to bake at 400 degrees. Approximately 30 minutes later, while the submitter was washing dishes she heard a loud pop noise and when she looked over at the oven she noticed the outer glass had shattered. She saw pieces of glass everywhere and some shards were still on the oven door. The submitter said the middle and inner glass is still intact. The submitter said the pieces of glass went as far as 7-10 feet from the oven and there were large pieces and small pieces of glass. The submitter also noticed that some pieces were sharp and others were not. The submitter then contacted the retailer and reported the incident. The submitter was advised that the unit is not recalled and they would not assist with free repairs. The submitter was then transferred to their recall department and was told again that her range was not recalled. The submitter then was advised to contact CPSC. The submitter has read many complaints online about similar incidents and is concerned that these products have not been recalled. The submitter indicated that exploding glass is extremely unsafe and it could have injured her grandchildren who are often in the kitchen with her while she cooks. The submitter said she read a statement issued by the retailer about these sort of incidents and they referred to the racks inside the oven as being a cause of the exploding glass but the submitter does not see how the racks could have caused the outer glass to shatter. The submitter indicated that this is a second home and she only spends about 6 months
