Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180122-33256-2147393494. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Whirlpool WMC50522AS (Whirlpool WMC50522AS Microwave). Incident: Whirlpool microwave WMC50522as is partly stuck on, creating a fire hazard. When the appliance ends a cycle, the turntable and fan stop, but the microwave heater is still operating. When in this mode, the microwave heater runs whenever the door is closed. This happened last Christmas, but we assumed my wife didn't program the cook power correctly. However, since then we have notice that when cooking a less than 100% power, the heating doesn't cycle. So you are always cooking at 100% power. Today, the oven is worse in that anytime the door is closed, it heats (but no fan or turntable). Because there is no control on the heat, a simple 10-second cycle could turn into hours if someone gets distracted and doesn't notice. This could cause the internal circuits or the food to catch fire. I am in the process of reporting to Whirlpool.
