Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180130-2E8A9-2147393275. Matched catalog product: Rheem Model: XE50T12EC55U0 Serial: RH A161406493 Gallons: 80. Source model text: XE50T12EC55U0. Incident: I have a Rheem Performance Platinum 50gal water heater that caught on fire due to a control panel overheating. My wife and I noticed a smell of burning electrical wires and noticed smoke coming from inside the water heater. We turned off the breaker and began looking online for a local Rheem repair company. As i typed Rheem into the search a Rheem page popped up talking about recalling these units because of control panels overheating and in some cases starting fires. We feel extremely lucky that we were home to catch it in the act and take care of it. Calling Rheem tomorrow in hopes of a speedy remedy.
