Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180216-FD309-2147392860. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Elite MST-900R (Elite 8'qt slow cooker in red). Incident: I was using my slow cooker barely 2 years old and hardly used. It had a pot roast, vegetables and a fair amount of liquid. I had started the recipe on high then turned it to low per the in instructions for the recipe. After about an hour I began to smell a strong burn smell from inside the pot. (Not the wiring) This was in spite of the amount in the pot, the liquid and the fact it was on low. It was at a high boil in spite of being turned down. It was very hot. I ended up finishing the pot roast in the oven. There was definitely the potential for a fire. After removing the contents to another pan I noticed the ceramic crock had a crack all the way through and there was some of the liquid which was dripping from the crack into the metal case which. It was likely the strong burn smell. I noted the crack went from the bottom of the crock all the way through but curiously inside the metal liner where the heating source is. I called Maxi-Matic as I don't feel this should be normal. They told me since it was out of its year warranty they could not do anything. And, I could send it to them for testing at my expense. It probably weights 10 - 15 lbs. If I had not been home, this would have caused a fire. It was overly hot. Elite Slow Cooker Model MST 900R PDC 2215 Intertwined 312629
