Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180306-03C83-1740673. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: CONAIR CORPORATION CB600SILPC (blender). Incident: This product comes with a blender base, the glass blender and a plastic food processor with 2 attachments (a chopper & a shredder). Approximately 9/2017: The consumer was using the chopper for 1 - 2 minutes, when the plastic that holds the blades cracked. The consumer was chopping carrots, when the machine stopped. She examined it and saw the crack in the plastic attachment. She put the attachment aside and quit using it. 3/42018: The consumer used the blender for 1 - 2 minutes, when the lights began flashing. The consumer was not sure why. Suddenly, the blender caught fire. The consumer immediately unplugged the blender and threw water on it to extinguisher the flames. The consumer had the blender inside of her sink, so the damage was limited to the blender itself. 3/6/2018: The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the problem to their rep. (name unknown). The rep. advised her to mail the product back to their company and include a check to cover postage. The rep. indicated that they would try to repair the product and ship it back to her. The consumer said based on the fire damage, she does not want the blender/chopper repaired. Nothing else transpired. NOTE: The consumer was blending kale, carrots and beets at the time of the fire. The consumer said that her product is identical to the one pictured in the link below. However, she discarded the product's packaging, so she could not indicate what the mfr. identified her product as (brand name). https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-BFP-703CH-SmartPower-DISCONTINUED-MANUFACTURER/dp/B00004WKI7 UL U.S. Listed: 2H18, 120 V
