Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180402-73D65-2147388842. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire FFLG2022MW3 (This was a single unit (unitize) dryer/washer. It was an Electrolux Frigidaire Model: FFLG2022MW3, Serial number: 4E43913102). Incident: On March 14, 2018, approximately 2300 hours, my Electrolux Frigidaire gas dryer caught on fire. This single unit (unitize) Frigidaire dryer/washer model number is: FFLG2022MW3, serial number: 4E43913102. We have had this dryer/washer unit since December 2014. We do laundry about twice a week and made sure the lint trap was lint free and the unit is level. The dryer/washer is located in our garage. We were in bed asleep upstairs when the dryer fire started. We heard an alarm go off but thought that it was outside the house. Seconds later, I smelled smoke inside the house. I ran out to the backyard and saw lots of smoke coming from the dryer exhaust vent. As soon as I opened the dryer door, it was still spinning with flames that look like a crematorium. I extinguished the flames and immediately turned off the gas supply. It was the garage smoke alarm that saved our lives.
