Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180417-69BBB-2147388543. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE Cafe Series Gas Double Oven CG5990Set3SS (GE Caf Series Gas Double Oven Model CG5990Set3SS, Serial Number VZ114802P). Incident: We have owned a GE Caf Double Oven Gas Range Series Model No:CG5990Set3SS, Serial No. V2111/802P since 2013. About two months ago the igniter on the main oven or lower oven exploded and shorted out the main panel. We first contact GE about service and we were told that there was NO GE service available in our area. So we contacted an independent local service company. The service company found that the lower oven glow igniter was damaged. They ordered the parts including a new igniter and circuit control board and came to our home today. When the service man installed the new igniter, it also exploded. He contacted GE and they told him we needed another part. Afterward I went online and found that GE has had numerous problems with the igniter on their GE Caf Ranges. There has been no recall that I can find. Why? This range cost $3,000. It should have lasted longer than 4 years. We are going to have to spend more than $500 to fix it. I also found online a report of the failure of this type of igniter in stoves, I wonder why? I would like to complain that first an exploding igniter in a natural gas stove is extremely dangerous. My wife and I are retired and we do just general cooking and we maintain our appliances.
