Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180510-A84E6-2147388077. Severity: Injury, Hospital Admission. Product: Cub Cadet 1D255H60020 (Yellow - 50" Cut Cub Cadet Lawnmower XLT 1050). Incident: FIRE/EXSPLOSION - of Lawnmower on April 24, 2018. My husband went to get the garbage cans (two) and parked the mower and came inside our home. Approx. 10-15 min later he heard the dogs barking and looked outside and the mower was on fire. He yells to me to call 911 as he runs outside, unhooked our dog who was near by, run back inside and grabbed the keys to my dads car to move it and by the time he got back outside the lawnmower explodes, throwing debris on him and the car keeping him from opening the door. This caused the top of the mower to be expelled onto the cars left bumper which engulfs into flames as the mower had a full tank of gas. My husband gets the water hose to start fighting the fire. As we wait for the Fire Department, I move our other vehicle, dog, try and get my husband to move back from this extremely dangerous fire. The wind was blowing for strong this day and every time I tried to get close to him the wind would change and I would get black smoke in my face. We start hearing Fire trucks, they pass by my house. I freak out, thinking they missed our house and call 911 back only to be told they where dispatched to another location. (We live about 1 mile from the Fire Station) The car explodes and my husband goes down, I am really freaking out now (he had a stroke in 2012 so I was scared something was wrong with him) but he gets back up and continues to try and save our house from this fire. Another Fire Truck goes by, then another... the car explodes again and again. Finally a Fire Truck pulls in and helps my husband put out this fire and he is ok only exh
