Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180524-A1023-2147387758. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kidde i12010S (Kidde ionization smoke alarm, model i12010S, with mfg date of 2016, Nov. 10. Alarm has 10 year lithium battery backup.). Incident: Reporting on Kidde ionization smoke alarm model i12010S Four of these were installed May 2017. Two have failed, the most recent occurrence 5/24/18. That's a 50% failure rate. In both cases, false reports of fire occurred despite the fact that the alarms have been well maintained by vacuuming and periodic application of canned air as per manufacturer. This is a 10 year Lithium battery backup model as well as being AC powered. In both cases the manufacturing date is 2016 Nov. 10. The house installed in is clean, well ventilated, and the alarms are properly installed following mfg recommendations. Environmentally, Relative Humidity reported by the weather service was at 68% with a house temperature noted at 67 degrees F. I'd like to stress again, a 50% failure rate is absolutely unacceptable for a product designed to provide fire safety!
