Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180611-8BA43-2147387417. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire LFES3025PFA (Frigidaire 30" slide in range model LFES3025PFA serial AF43700309). Incident: The front panel of my oven shorted out while not in use. Both the oven and stove were turned off when I left for work this morning. When I returned home there was a strong smell of burning plastic in my house. The lights on the front panel that normally display the time and oven temperature were dark, but they would flicker on if I pressed certain parts of the control panel (this didn't seem to be associated with any particular button, more like just the upper left hand region of the panel). The panel itself had a region about the size of a quarter that was upraised and had spiderweb cracks in it. None of this damage was present before I left for work this morning. None of the clocks in the house were flashing, so this wasn't a power outage or power surge. No other appliances in the kitchen were affected, and there were no scorch marks by any of the outlets. This appears to have been completely spontaneous and restricted to the oven. This could have very easily started a fire.
