The cooktop was manufactured in February 2014 and purchased new (as a discontinued model) in April, 2016.). Incident: Approximately three weeks ago, our Kenmore cooktop, Model #790.44229101, Serial Number: NF40722446, spontaneously ignited at approximately 1:40 a.m. CST. I was not feeling well and was still awake. I smelled smoke and was on my way to the kitchen when I heard the smoke alarm. I hurried to the kitchen and discovered a fire on my stovetop. A stack of paper plates and several other items were in flames and the kitchen was filled with smoke. I extinguished the fire before any damage could be done to our home's structure and before anyone on my family was injured. My husband and I made numerous attempts to turn the stove off. Each time we turned it off, the rear right burner would reignite This cooktop was manufactured in February 2014; and, we purchased it on 4/10/16. We purchased it as a discontinued floor model and were NOT offered the option to purchase an extended warranty. If this event had occurred 8 hours later, we would have lost our home and, potentially, our children. Our two youngest would have been home while my husband and I were at work.
