Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180710-82791-2147386887. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Cuisinart TOB-40 (Cuisinart Toaster Oven, Model TOB-40, SN 20920. It is about 2 - 3 years old.). Incident: I have a Cuisinart Toaster Oven, Model TOB-40, SN 20920. It is about 2 - 3 years old. On the morning of July 7th I used it to toast my breakfast. As usual, after a few minutes, the little red indicator light went off and I heard a beep. But I noticed the bottom two heating elements were still glowing orange, rather than cooling down. I even moved the knob from toast to off but the elements stayed on. At this point the toaster oven should have been off, and the red indicator light was off the whole time. The only way I could get the two bottom elements to go off was to unplug the unit from the wall. The next day, I plugged it back in. The elements stayed off. But when I pushed the Toast button, the problem happened again: The two bottom elements turned on, and would not go off unless I unplugged the unit from the wall. I think this is dangerous and possibly a fire hazard, as it means the toaster oven could be on continuously without the owner knowing.
