Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180711-F8D00-2147386854. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Electrolux MEW28BS71ISA (Electrolux Refrigerator Model number EW28BS71ISA). Incident: In 2012 I purchased an Electrolux refrigerator Model number EW28BS71ISA and Serial number 4A11801715. Within the first year we had to have the ice maker replaced under warranty. It continued to break and various repairs or replacement to the ice maker occurred on 4 other occasions at a cost to me. Once the ice maker almost caught fire and "spit" pieces of plastic into the kitchen. There is similar complaint already logged here by another consumer. For approximately 3 weeks or longer the ice maker worked intermittently and the freezer and fridge both seemed to intermittently lose its temperature. I assumed we left a door open (alarm should have sounded). 2 nights ago, I noticed water under the floor and pulled my fridge out. Imagine my surprise when the back of the entire fridge has rusted so much that there is rust on my floors and there is frost covering back! Electrolux said they are aware it is an issue and has a "fix kit" that I may be eligible for. But, I have to pay a repairman to come from Douglasville Ga to Augusta. My home is less than 20 miles from Electrolux Repair center. The repair company they provided is Dependable Repair at [REDACTED]. This company does not come here. I called back and received a voice mail from"[REDACTED] with Frigidaire" at [REDACTED] this morning at 0900EST that says she cannot provide a local repair service and so she gave me the name of 3 appliance stores!! I spoke with another repairman and he said that he is very familiar with this issue in Electrolux and that this issue means the walls of the fridge and insulation have been breached
