Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180722-BD96E-2147386642. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Can-Am Can-Am Defender Max X MR HD10. Source model text: Can-Am Maverick X3 Max. Incident: I purchased my Can-Am X3 Maverick Max in September of last year. After less than 100 miles, I took it to the dealership because the steering wasn't responsive. The dealer told me it was normal. I took it out again, and the steering was so poor that it stopped working altogether, and locked in a turned position resulting in a near rollover of the vehicle. I took the vehicle in yet again, and the dealer replaced the power steering motor. It has made no difference, and the steering has actually worsened. Parked on concrete, I cannot steer the wheel with one hand. In 4wd, it is impossible to steer unless the vehicle is moving. Can-Am and BRP know this is an issue, and have even updated the steering motor in the 2019 units, but the 2018 owners have no option. The vehicle becomes inoperable and unsafe.
