Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180906-C0347-2147385735. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore Elite Kenmore Elite 146.33578410 (Kenmore Elite 600 series grills (Carbon grey metallic Model # 146.33578410, 64,000 total BTU, 4 - 13,000 BTU main burner, 12,000 BTU side Burner, Electronic Ignition System). Incident: On 9/29/18 i was grilling dinner on my Kenmore Elite 600 series grill. However the flames were really high on the 4 end burners & more so on the end then in the middle of the burner even when turning back to low. The next morning on 9/30/18 I cleaned the grill and notice the the firebox has a hole that rusted through right next to where you ignite the burner. I contacted Sears by phone and the said I would have to have a service man come and look at it but it would cost $99. The grill was purchased in 6/18/15 but we did not receive it until late July. I have the original packaging sticker and warranty that has 10/25 year warranty on parts. This stick said the firebox stated on sticker "porcelain coated firebox". The firebox should not wrought away. After getting service repair man from Sears, he came out on 9/30/18 to look at grill charge me $99 that had to be paid then and gave me estimate for $452 to repair firebox that they say is not covered. I did not repair and started investigating Kenmore Gas Elite grills on line and found that over 12-15 were in class action lawsuit that were handled by the [REDACTED] law firm and sears /kenmore had defective grills that caused firebox tray to corrode prematurely exposing the propane tank and hose connections to grills burners, potential creating a safety hazard. I have sent a report and filed a copy of my info to the lawfirm. In the suit on March 13, 2017 sears had to pay the cost for repairs and reimburse customers but not all the kenmore grills were recalled, This started back December 2015 the same year I purchased my grill.
