Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180914-C3139-2147385555. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Profile Series Dishwasher PDW7880J15SS (Stainless Steel GE Profile Dishwasher). Incident: Come home after being out all afternoon and noticed heat coming from the dishwasher. When I opened the dishwasher a blast of very hot air came out. I immediately sensed something was wrong and flipped circuit breaker controlling the unit. The were numerous items inside the dishwasher that were cracked & melted. There is no doubt whatsoever that had we left for a longer period of time that there would have been a strong potential for a fire. I would have assumed that at the very least a Thermal Breaker inside the unit should have shut it off, but it appears to have not taken effect. Will go out tomorrow morning and buy a new dishwasher - I would never be able to sleep or leave home for a lengthy period of time knowing this fire hazard is in my home. Type - GE Profile Dishwasher Model - PDW7880J15SS Ser# - RL860343B
