Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20181009-8EF99-2147385096. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool WFG320M0BS3. Incident: Our Whirlpool gas range came with our home. We purchased it this year, brand new. I was cooking dinner with our oven set to 375 degrees. My son walked by the oven (he is two) and patted the door. He normally walks by, and touches things either saying hot or cold. This time he screamed. So I touched the glass myself. It was extremely hot. I couldnt leave my hand there for more than a second. I immediately contacted our contractor who referred me to whirlpool. Whirlpool sent a contractor out today, and according to him, after only having the oven for maybe 15 minutes, its normal. He states our door only got 135 degrees which is well below the UL standard of 180 degrees. He did not leave the oven long enough because when I felt the door of the temperature he got it too, it was no where near as hot as when my son and I burned our hands. This is clearly dangerous and many people have reported this issue before with this model. Some ovens heat up, while others dont, so clearly some are defective and whirlpool is doing nothing about it! My brother in law also has this oven, turned it up to 400 and his door stayed cool to warm. He said he could leave his hand sitting on the door no problem.
