Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20181017-4B0CB-2147384964. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart DGB 700. Source model text: Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew Coffeemaker DGB-700. Incident: The coffeemaker had been turned on manually to brew a pot. About 1 hour after brewing, I heard a crackling noise. It was still plugged in , keeping the carafe warm at the time. I investigated the noise, found the pot to have dark, acrid smoke coming from it (from the hot plate part) and I unplugged it. The smoke and odor of burning plastic continued to build so I grabbed the unit, threw it in the sink and put the fire out with water.
