Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20181024-D96D7-2147384837. Severity: Injury, Emergency Department Treatment Received. Product: Ninja Ninja Auto IQ 1000W Blender. Incident: ***********DO NOT BUY A SHARK NINJA BLENDER***************IT WILL BLOW UP ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At exactly 5:15 P.M. on January 25th 2018, My Ninja Blender Auto IQ exploded during removal off the lid after blending and I suffered deep second degree burns on my wrists, hands, face, and neck. The food that I put in the blender was room temperature and the blender heated up the food to the point that I was badly burned. Luckily I am cautious with protecting my head/face in emergency situations or my face would be completely scarred. I originally bought this blender to accommodate my daughter who is fed through G-Tube. I purchased the blender a year prior to the incident and used the blender 2-4 a day EVERY SINGLE DAY. The first time I used the blender I blended some dinner left overs (that was refrigerated over night) and my daughters prescription formula. When I went to take the lid off the pressure from blending it popped the lid off with a hard force and there was steam coming from the contents inside. I checked to feel the temperature and was surprised at how warm it was. I checked online to see if I could find any information on why it was making the food warm and with no luck, I just assumed that because the blenders blades rotated so quickly that it heated the content. As time went on I noticed that it kept heating food a little warmer after every use. I never imagined that it would have heated the food and exploded out of the container like it did, burning me in the process. My attorney contacted Ninja and explained the situation and the product malfunction. Ninja in
