Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20181029-39525-2147384763. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Whirlpool WGG745S0FS (Whirlpool WGG745S0FS -- 30 Inch Freestanding Gas Range). Incident: Smell of Natural Gas in the building. 911 called. Using gas detecting equipment the firefighters isolated the source of the gas odor to a condo unit that had a knob for one of the kitchen stove burners that was slightly moved from it's off position. We have 31 residential units in our complex. Several other residents have experienced the large knobs on their stoves getting bumped while cleaning the stove or using the microwave above the stove and the knob inadvertently being turned on slightly to a point before the igniter spark starts and resulting in gas flowing. This is a extremely hazardous product defect and this product should be recalled immediately before a serious injury or death event occurs.
