Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20181116-2286A-2147384321. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire FFHS2611LW7 (Side by side refrigerator with freezer. Water and ice dispenser on the door.). Incident: My refrigerator was being used a normal amount, not opened and closed very often. It was purchased in June of 2013 and this morning I woke up to an acid-like smell in the air. I thought maybe someone in the house had lit a candle the night before. I did not notice any smoke at the time. I performed my normal morning routine and then was heading out of the house to go to work and heard the sound of popcorn popping. I walked into our kitchen and noticed a flickering light against the wall behind the refrigerator. When I looked behind it I noticed flames shooting out of the back of the appliance. I pulled it out away from the wall and unplugged it. The fire was coming from the lower left corner of the back side of the refrigerator. Near the compressor. I called the seller and they gave me the number for Frigidaire and I called them and they said there weren't any recalls and of course the warranty is only 1 year long. They offered to help me locate a repair tech in my area but, that is not going to happen.
