Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20181116-4C055-1810865. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore 790.96112409 (Electric range with oven). Incident: The problem started approximately 2 - 4 months ago. The wife turned the burner off after cooking and sat down for dinner Twenty minutes later, the consumer went into the kitchen and found the burner on high. He checked and saw that the control knob was in the off position. The consumers discontinued use of that burner, but they have mistakenly used it once in a while. The left front burner only has the problem. The consumer noted that he and his wife normally use the right burners, because they are right handed and there is more counter space on that side. They have not been any injuries and no property damage, but since they became aware of the problem, they closely monitor the use of the range. The consumer went to the local retailer where it was purchased. He was referred to a Sears number and then he was redirected to Kenmore Customer Care. He also spoke with those companies more than once, prior to being referred to the CPSC Hotline, today. The consumer is concerned about the potential fire safety issue for his family and believe that this should be addressed by the mfr. No one at Sears or Kenmore offered to take additional details from the consumer even though he mentioned CPSC Recall# 09-333 and said he felt this presented a safety hazard.
