Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20181203-38D05-1814049. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore 790.3690.3900 (gas range). Incident: The consumer stated that she is just getting back into her home after a fire that occurred in her Kenmore range. There was damage to her kitchen cabinets as well as damage to the stove. (06/20/2018) The consumer stated that she turned on the self-cleaning feature before leaving for work but advised her daughter that the feature was on. Her daughter advised her that during the self-cleaning of the oven, there was a carbon monoxide warning from the smoke detectors that had just been put up two weeks prior. Her daughter left the house and called the fire department. It was later determined by the insurance company that the fire was caused by items in the storage bin that is under the oven. The consumer stated that she had lids for pots, warming stones and other items in the bin. The consumer stated that nowhere in the owner's manual for the product does it advise consumers to remove items from the storage bin before using the self-cleaning feature. (12/03/2018) The consumer contacted the manufacturer and was advised that there is no recall on the product. The consumer was also advised to contact CPSC.
