Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190105-E3B22-2147383406. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Logitech lOGITECH WIRELESS GAMING MOUSE, Model: G 602 (Logitech wireless gaming computer mouse. It has standard left / right buttons plus nine other buttons. Powered by two standard AA alkaline batteries.). Incident: On April 4, 2017, I purchased, from BestBuy Electronics,[REDACTED], one (1) Logitech-brand G602 Wireless Gaming Mouse, which is an expensive unit. This not an ordinary wireless mouse but is designed for playing computer games. It has six (6) buttons on the left side, three (3) additional buttons on the upper portion in addition to the professional-style wheel and the left and right control buttons. (My grandson gave me directions as to how to use it when we play "[REDACTED]".). This was my primary mouse for several months until the start of November 2018. I went down to my basement office, turned on my computer and monitor then reached for my Logitech G602 it felt slightly warm to the touch (but not hot). Coupled with that the arrow on the screen was not present and the mouse would not "wake-up". I turned it over and saw that the power button was in the 'on' or green position. I usually don't turn off my mouse(s) [mice?] because the modern units put themselves in a 'sleep' mode after several minutes of inactivity. What surprised me that the bottom of the mouse had melted to a size of approximately 4cm x 3cm, and approximately 2mm inward into the mouse base. No interior electronics or wiring was visible. Overnight the mouse had been sitting on the wood on my desk. It is cordless and is powered by two (2) AA batteries. It has not modified in a single way. There are no incandescent or halogen lighting units on or around my desk. Also, all illumination is produced by lower voltage, 12-volt DC LED small 'puck' lights none of which are close to the area where the mouse is used. T
