Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190201-7BB2C-2147382952. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Toro 51586 (Toro electric leaf blower model 51586.). Incident: We had a light snow today and I took out my Toro electric leaf blower model 51586 to clear the snow off of my car. I've done this many times and it works great. I plugged it in, turned it on and second later it violently exploded with a very loud bang. The impeller came apart and ripped through the blower housing. Parts of the housing and impeller hit me in the chest and face. Fortunately I was wearing a ski mask, winter coat and glasses and was not injured. I had purchased the blower from Home Depot around 2001. I was not aware this model had been recalled in 2007. The potential for injury in this type of product failure is very high and I feel that Toro should have done more to alert customers of the recall. The recall section on their web site does not list this recall.
