Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190226-755E0-2147382496. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Amazon Basics DQ078 (Floor heater). Incident: On February 20, 2019 I was in my home office working on several projects. I had the Amazon Basics heater on and suddenly flames came out of the front of the heater. I pulled the electric cord out of the wall and ran down the hall with the heater still on fire. I went through our garage and threw the flaming heater onto our driveway where it burned for about 5 minutes. When the flames finally went out, the heater smoked for quite some time. I was very lucky that I was quick enough to remove the heater before it could catch my office on fire. If I were disabled, a small child with no supervision, or had stepped out of my office to get a cup of coffee from our kitchen, the heater would have caught my carpet on fire. All carpets are flammable and it would only take a minute for a fire to destroy my home if I was unable to put it out.
