Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190227-CC214-1836769. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore 110.79132413 (gas dryer). Incident: The submitter is reporting the unit for posing a fire hazard. He put a comforter in the dryer and selected the bulking bedding setting with low heat. When he went to check on the load he noticed the machine finished the cycle but when he removed the comforter he noticed it had melted and the inside of the dryer had burn damages. He noticed the plastic inside had warped and the vent is black. He indicated that the unit still turns on but he does not plan to use it. He contacted the firm today but the automated system re-routes callers to the retailer, Sears if the appliance was purchased from them. He spoke with the retailer and reported the incident (Case #[REDACTED). He was told that any inspections or repairs would be at his expense. He doesnt believe he should pay for the inspection or repair and requested to speak with a supervisor. He was told he would receive a call back from a supervisor but has yet to hear back.
