Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190311-DC100-2147382259. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore 316492239 Bisque (Electric Range with glass top, 5 burners and Convection. Bisque color.). Incident: Kenmore Electric Range with Convection. Color; Bisque. P/N or Model No. from back of Range: 316492239. Purchased approximately February, 2013 from Sears store. On Saturday, March 9, 2019, the circuit board across the top back of my range Short-Circuited. I heard static and several flashes of Flame came up the back of the range. This happened after I had been using the range at 450 degrees for approximately 1 hour and then pressed the Stop "button" to turn off the oven. The Range screen immediately started flashing an Error Code, F10 I think, and the letters ERR and emitting a loud beeping sound. When the firemen came they immediately pulled the range away from the wall and unplugged the power cord. They confirmed that the problem was definitely the circuit board. The back metal panel over the circuit boards was still extremely hot to the touch. The problem was not the power cord. I contacted Sears Consumer Services on March 11th. They did not seem interested in the fact that one of their Kenmore ranges had short circuited and potentially could have easily started a major fire in the kitchen and home. We were extremely lucky it did not start a fire After I left the kitchen. My husband is a double amputee and we would have had great difficulty removing him quickly from his back bedroom to a safe distance rom the house.
