Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190405-898F0-2147381814. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Hewlett-Packard-Packard Hp 2211x led (Hewlett-Packard-packard monitor). Incident: I have a hp 2211x led monitor serial# cnk1120ys8 which I purchase on 11-15-2012. I was sitting in a room with my computer on when I heard a pop from the computer monitor which went blank. Within 30 seconds smoke started coming from the back of the monitor. I tried turning off the monitor by pushing the on off button on the monitor but this did not stop the smoke coming from back of monitor. I immediately then unplug the monitor from the power source and the smoke stop. Removing the monitor and looking at the back were the power cord goes into the monitor you can see the cord was starting to melt from the heat. If I had not been in the room at this time I feel a fire would have stated. I don't know if this is an isolated problem with this monitor or if other consumers have had the same problem. If I had known there was a potential fire problem with this monitor I would have replaced immediately. My concern is that other user of this monitor should be made aware of this possible fire problem.
