Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190411-66DE7-2147381725. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Char Broil Char Broil Patio Bistro Gas (LP) Grill, Model 126015 Series. Source model text: 463344015. Incident: My Char-Broil outdoor propane gas grill caught fire due to a defect in design and materials. There is a metal plated attached to the bottom of the firebox (in which the burners are placed). That plate is made of thin metal and is not removable for cleaning. Most drippings flow to the center into an opening and to a can that can be attached for catching grease. The metal plate corroded and formed a circular hole allowing grease to flow onto the PROPANE TANK and exterior grill base and floor. EVEN WITH REGULAR CLEANING THAT GREASE CANNOT BE REMOVED. IT CAUGHT FIRE - AND COULD HAVE INJURED ME AND EXPLODED THE PROPANE TANK. I EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND WAS ABLE TO PREVENT A DISASTER.
