Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190517-28DE3-2147380920. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool WMH53520CS. Incident: My whirlpool over the range microwave has melted a hole on the interior rectangular plastic piece on the top of the microwave. After some research, this model was included in a recall from 2016, WMH53520CS but my serial number TR45157865 was not part of that recall. There must be something wrong with the mechanical workings of this microwave for this plastic piece to melt like it has. My fear is that if this plastic piece gets hot enough it could possibly catch fire. There is also the possibility that whatever is causing the plastic to melt is also causing additional damage that is not visible to the eye unless taken apart. I do not want to see this cause a fire because Whirlpool is making defective products. The manufactured date is Decemeber 2014.
