Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190605-9E01F-1878677. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Jenn air JES9860AAB (Jenn air electric stove). Incident: Submitter says that she placed a few items in the oven to bake. Caller smelled smoke and burning after a few 10"??-15'moments. Noticed that the boiler element was hot and could not turn the product off. Had to shut off the circuit breaker in order to turn off the boiler. Jenn Air informed caller that the stove would reset itself after a few minutes. Caller says that the product has not reset or turned on since the incident. See note. Caller believes this product is a fire hazard. Note: Jenn Air - sent local technician out. On arrival he stated when he saw the complaint that the broiler would not turn off he knew right away that the part to fix it was no longer available. When I asked how many he had been called for this problem he said "4" - he had worked for this repair company about two years. My son found the part on the internet for about $85, however part was no longer being made. My main concern is the home fire hazard. Often times I might have had a roast in oven for2-3 hours & may have gone to the store, or outside working in yard or shoveling. How long would it have taken to fill my house with smoke or cause other damage before I would be aware of it? Has there been other home damages or potential for this to happen. Is it just this model or others? Have people been injured because of this product/issue? Should consumers be made aware of this potential hazard? Safety issue? Sincerely, [REDACTED] 6-27-19
