Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190611-FF5E7-1880231. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore 95014102 (electric range). Incident: The submitter is reporting the unit for posing a fire hazard. She used the oven to heat up sandwiches for about 45 minutes and set the oven to the bake setting at 350 degrees. A few minutes after taking out the food she went to turn off the oven but it failed to shut off and the door locked on its own. She indicated that the control panel had red and green numbers, indicating an error. She shut off the breaker and the unit turned off. She said when they turned the circuit breaker back on the top broiler immediately turned on and she believes the top broiler is defective. She contacted the retailer today to report the matter and request assistance. They informed her that the unit was not recalled and her warranty expired so they would not provide a free inspection or repair. She was then referred to contact CPSC. She can only recall three repairs conducted by the retailer under warranty. The control panel was replaced twice due to malfunction. The ovens bottom broiler was replaced after sparks were coming from it. The stovetop is used daily and the oven is used a few times a month.
