Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190614-2B788-2147380426. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: PBS kids / Ematic PBD kids playtime pad. 7" HD kid safe tablet. (PBD kids playtime pad. 7" HD kid safe tablet. Green plastic device with blue rubber protective sleeve. model # PBKRWM5410 NS FCC. Electronic games and shows device.). Incident: We purchased a PBS playtime pad, model #PBKRWM5410 NS FCC, IN December 2017. In June 2019 we noticed that the battery is expanding and causing the casing to separate exposing the internal components. We have secured the device so that our children and dogs do not have access to it. The battery continues to expand and the casing is almost completely disconnected. It is currently wrapped in a bag and placed in a plastic lock box in case it does explode. My sister purchased the same item for her son in December 2017 as well. Her device was purchased at a different store and in a different city. Her device did the same thing a couple months ago. At that time we figured she got a defective device. Now that it has happened to our device as well I believe it is more likely a defective product (not just an individual device). I would like to strongly urge a recall of this item. If a child were to find it before the parent and get curious the results could be toxic. It could also be possible for the battery to completely explode before an adult is aware of it. Again the results could be toxic. I am currently involved in email communications with ematic, the company that makes the product. I have requested that my device be replaced with a safer device or that they return my money as this is not the result of normal wear and tear. I also told them about my sister's device and I am urging them to do a recall of this item. I have pictures that I hope that I can include with this report. In the event that I cannot please know that they are available and I would be happy to send them. Th
