Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190619-21B89-2147380330. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: General Electric (GE) Profile GE Profile Dryer: Model #GFDR48SEF7RR (GE Profile Front Load Washer and Dryer Washer: Model # GFWR4805F0RR Serial #MD167718G Dryer: Model #GFDR48SEF7RR Serial #RD152430G). Incident: GE Profile Front Load Washer and Dryer Washer: Model # GFWR4805F0RR Serial #MD167718G Dryer: Model #GFDR48SEF7RR Serial #RD152430G May 2019 Our GE Profile dryer caught on fire. Hazardous and dangerous. Circuit board malfunctioned. Thermal event. I put in a load of towels and the dryer shut off ten minutes later. I went to check on it and smoke was coming out of the machine because of a faulty circuit board shooting sparks. As I reached for the dryer door, it restarted. I immediately opened the door to stop the dryer cycle and proceeded to unplug the dryer. Thank goodness we were home. The GE Tech who came out to do the diagnostics, called this a thermal event. I have pictures and kept the burnt circuit board as reference. The tech came out again to replace the circuit board. Our GE Profile Washer has never worked properly. Several GE Reps confirmed faulty design chip issue (can't fix) and cycle pause and balance issues (can't fix). The machine stalls and cannot balance during spin cycles and keeps resetting itself between 6 to 11 minutes at end of cycle, over and over. Towels come out soaking wet, not damp. I had it serviced many times and most recently had it serviced on 5/21/2019 with the GE tech replacing the Invertor Machine Control Board and drain pump. Previously, the circuit board was replaced a couple of times and several software updates...still no improvement. After the tech left, I put a load of 5 towels in the washer and 1 hour and 45 minutes later the machine shut itself off and towels still soaking wet. Status quo! Even though it cannot be fixed, GE refuse
