Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190701-71F35-2147380154. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: LG DLG2051W. Incident: While drying laundry we started noticing a strong gas odor coming from the dryer (LG Model DLG2051W, Serial #: 912KWUC00846) . The odor seemed to be strongest near the bottom right area of the dryer. I came across another incident report on this site (Incident report# 20151221-A5328-2147425608) which contained a virtually identical incident stated to be caused by a problem with the gas ignition valve. The other report states "The valve seems to open and not igniting during the drying process. This is a major safety hazard as gas could build up and ignite during the next heating cycle. While searching online it seems many others have the same issue with this dryer however a recall has not been issued." I agree that it could pose a serious danger. Gas could build up inside the dryer, get ignited and explode during the next cycle or it could ignite and explode when the light is turned on in the laundry room. Either of the two cases would pose a serious hazard to both life and property. We have not yet contacted LG but will do so. Considering the response given to others owners of LG gas dryers with the same issue I do not have high hopes that they will own the problem and correct it. Please feel free to contact me for further details if necessary.
