Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190715-A978E-1888272. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE JBP82C0F1CC (GE electric stove "spectra"). Incident: Submitter says that a few moments after using the product, flames started to spew from the oven broiler. The broiler burner caught fire. Sparks flew out of the oven and onto the kitchen floor. The product was turned off when this incident occurred. Caller was able to put the flames out before any significant damage was done to the kitchen. The broiler element burned up and flames went out on there own Submitter says that if they were not home they believe the whole house would have been burned down. Flames would have stayed in oven had door remained close. GE says this is not unusual when elements burn out and it was not dangerous except that we opened oven door. We were able to have both broiler elements and oven element replaced and oven is now usable.
