Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190725-1A528-2147379679. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Monoprice 21711 (ttps://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=21711 Monoprice MP Select Mini 3D Printer V2, Black Product # 21711). Incident: I recieved a Monoprice Monoprice MP Select Mini 3D Printer V2, Black Product # 21711 found at https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=21711 as a gift for Christmas 2018. After approximately a month of use the device began to emit a rubber/plastic burning smell and a small amount of smoke. I powered the device down and found that wires from the hot bed, the heated metal plate that the printer prints onto, had worn through and shorted out due to being zip tied in place too tightly by the manufacturer with no strain relief. As a result of this the onboard computer died and the heat bed no longer heats. I am concerned that if I had not powered down the device when I did the insulation on the wire could have caught fire. Monoprice customer service did not seem interested in my problem as they do not honor warranties on gifted items.
