Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190814-E6DBB-2147379265. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Whirlpool Aqua Lift Clean Gas Range WFG540HOES1 (Whirlpool Aqua Lift Clean Gas Rang WFG540HOES1e Black/Stainless, 5-burner ,Aqua Lift Clean Gas Range.). Incident: Our Whirlpool Stove came with out house when we purchased it 2 1/2years ago. We are in a [REDACTED] in a 55 plus community ([REDACTED]). We have experienced on several occasions that the burner on the stove is on. Now it doesn't always have a flame, so we have always managed to see it or smell the gas and turn it off. Today a lady came to our house, and when I opened the door, she said "Oh your house smells like gas". I am not able to smell things so of course I could not smell it. My wife was getting ready in the bathroom and she didn't smell it. We aired out our house and called the gas company. They came out to check it for us. No leaks. He could see how easy it was to turn on the burner without hands. My wife had put her breakfast in the microwave above the burners and as she took the food out and turned to put on the bar, she was able to turn on two burners from her body touching the burners which are on the front of the stove. My wife is a petite person. It happened so fast that it did not make a clicking noise. I would like to add that another neighbor down the street with the same stove, went on vacation. On the 5th day that they were gone, a neighbor smelled gas. She got the key open the door and the house was filled with gas. The Fire Department came out and said another day and the house would have blown up. We feel this is a big safety concern for us and the whole community.
