Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190826-1ED93-2147378074. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Whirlpool Gold Series WDT790SLYM3 (WHirlpool Gold Series). Incident: We were running a load in our dishwasher last night and it was towards the end of the cycle that we noticed a burning smell. We opened the dishwasher and looked in to make sure something plastic had not fallen down and was burning. There was nothing. Then smoke started coming out of the door of the dishwasher and it was extremely hot to the touch. The room started to fill with smoke and a smell of something electrical burning. We grabbed our fire extinguisher and sprayed the dishwasher. We then called 911. The fire department arrived within minutes and turned off the breaker to the dishwasher. They came into the house and checked to make sure the fire was out and nothing behind the dishwasher in the cabinet was showing heat or fire. They proceeded to pull out the dishwasher and felt and monitored the heat coming from the door. They opened the door panels and discovered the faulty wire to the control panel was the cause of the fire and destruction of the dishwasher.
