Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190826-B1630-2147378061. Severity: Injury, Emergency Department Treatment Received. Product: Lunar Bowk Fire Table LUNAR BOWL FIRE TABLE (PROPANE) MODEL# OFG101LP (Lunar Bowl Fire Table by ELEMENTI Propane fueled fire pit 2 units received, first serial # HSC-D20190700001.... SECOND UNIT, SEE SERIAL # BELOW). Incident: Product: "Lunar Bowl Fire Table" by ELEMENTI, product # OFG101LP (propane fueled fire pit) I ordered this fire pit through Amazon and it was delivered to my home. It did not light using the ignitor, despite several attempts following the manual's lighting instructions. As I indicated to ELEMENTI, "IGNITION CLICKING HEARD AND PROPANE FLOWING, BUT UNIT FAILS TO FLAME. " They responded by sending a second unit. This had the same problem, as it did not flame in the fire pit following the lighting instructions. I could hear the ignitor clicking, but it would not light. I allowed the propane to dissipate as suggested in the manual, and then repeated this again, also as suggested in the manual, but it would not light. I then followed the alternative directions in the manual to light the fire pit using a handheld lighter. I was able to get the fire ring to light this way, but shortly after lighting it, a fireball exploded. My son and I were seated next to it on the couch, and the fire appeared to come mostly from underneath the unit and caused burns to our legs. It seared off the hair on our lower legs and resulted in second degree burns, mostly to my son's lower left leg and foot, and a smaller second degree burn to my right lower leg. The burns to my son's leg were treated in the Emergency Room at Rhode Island Hospital. I had a fire pit/ gas service professional examine both fire pits afterwards and he detected heavy leaking propane from the air mixer (venturi) device underneath each unit. He reported them both to be unsafe and condemned them for use. Since the same issue involve
