Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20191028-BB7CD-1915446. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Maytag CGS3760ADC (gas oven). Incident: Caller is reporting that the gas oven came on by itself and started to engulf the room with smoke. The smoke was dispersing from the control panel. She stated that they contacted the fire department, they came out and disconnected the oven. Caller feels that if they were not present the unit would have exploded and caused a house fire . There were no prior incidents they may have standard services but nothing major. Caller stated that after 24 hours the house has an electrical fire odor, her eyes still burns from the smoke. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised her that all appliances dies after 15 years, however, this does not seem to be safe for any consumer, Caller feels that this oven is a fire hazard and should be investigated.
