Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20191124-9D7E2-2147376376. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: ZeroLemon Toughjuice 30000 mAh USB External Battery Pack ZeroLemon Toughjuice ("ZeroLemon 30000mAh USB C External Battery Pack Ultra High Capacity Portable Rugged Charger" Description: "30000mAh USB C External Battery Pack: World's Toughest USB-C External Battery Pack @ 30000mAh Capacity. Charges the iPhone Xs Max up to 11 times, the Galaxy S10 Plus 6 times, Note 10 7 times. Huge battery life for long travel and camping. "). Incident: I purchased a 30,000 mAh lithium-ion portable battery bank called the Zerolemon Tough in Dec. 2018 off Amazon that is advertised as drop/shock-resistant. On 11-24-2019, after charging the power bank to 100% the device spontaneously combusted into flames in my bedroom after being dropped from a height of less than 3 ft on to a carpeted floor. The device intitially spewed electrical smoke for 10-15 seconds and then burst into flames quickly thereafter. Luckily I was able to throw the burning battery pack onto my concrete porch and let it burn itself out safely. There are numerous other reports on Amazon of similar incidents occurring to other customers, sometimes causing burns to skin or property. I believe these devices are extremely dangerous and likely faulty in nature.
