Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20191208-1A4B5-2147376137. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE PHS930SL1SS (GE slide in electric induction stove with convection oven). Incident: We own a GE induction range that we bought new about a year and a half ago. Since then, we've had relatively minor issues with water boiling over and getting into the electrical components of the stove through a gap in the back of the range top. The stove will go haywire and shut off. Once it dries out, the stove will usually turn back on at unplugging and replugging it back in. The last straw was when we were making dinner using the convection bake feature while using the range top at the same time. A little water boiled over and got into the gap before I could clean it up. Suddenly, the stove started making electrical shock noises, all the lights began flashing and then the rear of the unit actually started on fire and it's electrical components were destroyed. My home could've burned down. Luckily it did not injure us, but it absolutely could have. I can't believe there's a product that just allows moisture to seep into it's electrical components like that. This product is clearly unsafe. We were not using it for unintended purposes. I can't understand how an electrical fire could happen so easily like this. This is a pretty expensive product, too. Absolutely appalling.
