Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20191227-61C31-2147375765. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD (LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD, Stainless Steel). Incident: My wife and I purchased an LG range, Model LDG4313BD, on November 9, 2017. We were disturbed to find two years later - around November 21, 2019 - after the warranty had expired, that the oven cooked unevenly. Some foods on one side of the oven were in different states of doneness than those, in the same cooking container, on other sides. We were more concerned, a few dates later, when the oven would not heat up; however, after a couple of minutes, a fireball ignited in the oven! We quickly turned it off. We called a professional repair person to look at the range. He stated initially that LG ranges were a problem and that the lower convection oven motor needed to be replaced. The gas would heat up, but with a broken motor, had nowhere to go other than to ignite within the oven. He subsequently replaced it for $373.00 that for an oven that was barely two years old. He also warned us not to use the self-cleaning option on the range because that, too, would be a problem. My wife called LG to complain about the range fireball and was told that the warranty had indeed expired and they could refer us to an LG repair person. Of course, we had already hired someone who had replaced the range motor. LG did not stand behind its product at all.
