Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200108-C0A73-2147375529. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung NE58F9500SS (Samsung 5.8 cu. ft. Slide-in electric range with self-cleaning dual covection oven in stainless Steel.). Incident: On December 4, 2019 I used for the first time the self cleaning oven. I followed the instructions on page 56 and 57 of the manual. The default setting is 3 hours which I used. The doors and front drawers of kitchen cabinet on each side of the range were damaged by the heat coming out of the oven during the cycle. I called the manufacturer they sent a technician from DISH Samsung authorized service provider on December 7, 2019. He told us that the default 3 hours is too long. He recommends to all his clients not to exceed 90 minutes because the oven reach 700 degrees Fahrenheit. In the manual nothing is mentioned about 90 minutes. But according to page 14 it says DO NOT TURN THE APPLIANCE OFF WHILE AN OPERATION IS IN PROGRESS. THIS MAY CAUSE A SPARK AND RESULT IN ELECTRIC SHOCK OR FIRE. Every customers that purchased this range should be notified immediately to avoid damages. This information should be added to the manual for customers protection: Remove all doors and drawers beside range to avoid damages. Samsung sent me an email on December 20, 2019 stating at this time the claim is being closed as this is not considered to be a mechanical defect.
