Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200112-5788E-2147375450. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Dell XPS15 (Dell XPS15 Service Tag CMTNLH2). Incident: On Dec. 8th, 2019 my Dell XPS 15 laptop exploded, damaging my dining room table. The computer was on the table, charging. No one was in the house at the time (my husband was in the front yard). We noticed a strong electrical smell when we entered the house and discovered the computer had exploded. I had not any issues with the computer prior to this. I have since discovered that Dell has had other instances with the XPS 15 battery. (https://[REDACTED]) I am concerned that a recall has not been issued for this laptop. Had the computer been on a soft surface I'm sure there would have been a large fire, given the damage that my table suffered. I have not yet returned the computer to Dell - they were extremely slow in responding and I only heard from them last week.
