Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200205-704B6-1951004. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Whirlpool WO551ECYAS04 (Electric, built-in oven). Incident: This was the 2nd time that the consumer used the self-cleaning feature, since he has owned the oven. The enamel on the front bottom of the oven has started to chip and it shows several spider cracks. The first time the consumer noticed it, was after using the self-cleaning feature, the second time. That area is rough enough for someone to slice their fingers. 2/3/2020: The consumer called the manufacturer and the retail company. 2/4/2020: The retailer's technician came out and checked the range and indicated that he thought the problem was cosmetic. The tech. said that they could take a high-temperature paint stick and paint it. This is not acceptable to the consumer. The consumer also spoke with a manufacturer's rep. and she said that the only thing that could be done would be to replace the oven. However, the retailer does not want to replace it. NOTE: The mfr's warranty cover's the first year, but the consumer also purchased a retailer's warranty, which covers additional years. The consumer believes that this may present a fire/burn hazard,
